In June of 2023, I started hitting the bags at the gym, every morning (4 to 5 AM) for about 4 months. I got sick in October and that really threw my routine off. I started working exclusively on southpaw and by the end of it had gotten much more comfortable in that stance. My left kick still doesn’t feel as strong, but it’s much better than before.
Beginning 2024, I stopped paying for the gym and stopped hitting the bags. I started running more. I’m still working on running in the morning, but it’s been a struggle. I signed up for a 5k in April. Wish me luck.
Why running? I loathe running and want to overcome it. I’m not running because I like it. I like hitting bags way more than running. But it’s not the easy things, the things we like that will make us stronger. It’s overcoming the things we hate that makes us strong.
