This is the beginning of a memoir I’ve been quietly working on for years. I’m sharing it now, not because it’s finished, but because the path is still being walked—and maybe, it’ll resonate with someone else walking their own.
For over a decade, I trained in Kendo, the Way of the Sword. But I’ve never been content with staying in one lane. My journey took me from the precision of Japanese swordsmanship to the grounded chaos of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, from the flow of Kung Fu to the raw intensity of Muay Thai.
This memoir isn’t just about martial arts. It’s about how movement became my medicine. It’s about losing your way, and what it takes to come back—not just stronger, but softer too.
Now, as a father, I find myself walking the path again—but slower, more mindful, and with someone watching.
This is my Musha Shugyo—my warrior’s pilgrimage.
And this time, I walk it not to prove anything, but to pass something on.
Excerpt of the introduction will be out next week. You can also find me on https://mymushashugyo.substack.com/
